PROJECTS A: Protein engineering of esterases

Jessica Moisan was involved with the identification of structural features that determine esterase behavior.  Her goal was to decipher the contribution of surface and buried salt bridges in an extremely stable esterase named EstGtA2 (from Geobacillus thermodenitrificans). 

 

She is now with CNETE, a college technology transfer center in Shawinigan (QC).  

Ximena Zottig carried pioneering work on a novel esterase from Aneurinibacillus thermoaerophilus.  The comparison of this enzyme with previously characterized ones sheds light on phylogenetic relationships among bacterial esterases and the control of thermostability.

 

Ximena is now a Ph.D. student at UQAM (Montréal, Québec).
